About Heineken Experience
The Heineken Experience occupies the company's original city-centre brewery, in operation from 1867 until production moved out of Amsterdam in 1988 due to the site's inability to keep up with demand. Rather than demolish or repurpose the historic building for offices, Heineken converted it in 1991 into a visitor attraction — one of the earlier examples of a major beverage brand turning its own history into a paid tourist experience, a template many other breweries and distilleries have since copied.
The self-guided route covers the company's history, the brewing process and ingredients, and Heineken's own branding and marketing story, including its long-running sponsorships of the UEFA Champions League and James Bond films — sections that lean unmistakably promotional, which is worth knowing going in. Interactive elements include a 'brew you' simulator ride and several photo-op installations aimed squarely at younger, group-travel audiences.

The tour concludes in a tasting room with two beers included in the standard ticket, with an optional rooftop bar upgrade adding a third drink and skyline views. The whole experience runs 90 minutes to two hours at a comfortable pace, and the venue is strictly 18+, with ID checks at entry.
Whether it's 'worth it' depends heavily on expectations: as a beer museum it's polished corporate marketing more than deep brewing education, but as a lively, drink-inclusive activity for a group of adults it delivers reliably on that specific promise.
