About Soho Street Art District
The Soho Barrio de las Artes is Málaga's street art district — a grid of streets south of the Alameda Principal, between the historic centre and the port, that has been transformed from a neglected residential area into one of the most vibrant urban art destinations in Spain.
The project began in 2013 as a deliberate cultural regeneration initiative led by the city council and the MAUS (Málaga Arte Urbano en el Soho) collective. International and Spanish street artists were invited to paint large-scale murals on the blank walls of residential buildings, and the results now cover dozens of facades across the neighbourhood.

The murals are large, ambitious, and diverse in style — photorealistic portraits, abstract geometric compositions, political commentary, surrealist imagery, and everything in between. Notable artists who have contributed include D*Face (UK), Obey/Shepard Fairey (US), ROA (Belgium), and several prominent Spanish artists including Dadi Dreucol and José Fernández Ríos. New murals are added regularly, so the district is never quite the same on consecutive visits.
The neighbourhood itself has been revitalised by the art — cafés, galleries, and design shops have opened alongside the existing residential buildings, creating a mixed-use area that feels genuine rather than tourist-manufactured. The CAC Málaga (Contemporary Art Centre), housed in a former wholesale market, anchors the district with free-entry exhibitions of contemporary art.
Walking the Soho district takes about an hour and combines naturally with a visit to the Centre Pompidou and Muelle Uno, both of which are within easy walking distance to the south.
