About Teleférico de Benalmádena

The Teleférico de Benalmádena is one of the most dramatic cable car rides in southern Spain. Departing from the Arroyo de la Miel area of Benalmádena — about 20 minutes west of Málaga by car or train — it climbs 769 metres to the summit of Monte Calamorro in approximately 15 minutes, covering a horizontal distance of 2.7 kilometres.

The ride itself is the main attraction. The four-seater gondolas climb steeply from the coastal plain, passing over scrubland, pine forests, and rocky outcrops. As you gain altitude, the views unfold progressively: first the coastal strip and the sea, then the full sweep of the Costa del Sol from Málaga to Marbella, and finally — on clear days — the Rock of Gibraltar and the mountains of northern Morocco across the Strait.

At the summit, a network of walking trails leads to various viewpoints around the peak. The panorama from the top is genuinely exceptional — on a clear winter or spring day, the visibility can extend over 100 kilometres. There are also falconry displays (birds of prey demonstrations) at the summit during peak season, and a small cafeteria.

The mountain environment at the summit is markedly different from the coast — expect it to be 5–10 degrees cooler and windier. The cable car may close in high winds, so check before visiting on windy days.

Combine with the Mariposario butterfly park (10 minutes away) and Benalmádena Pueblo for a full day out from Málaga.
