How to Get from Málaga Airport to the Costa del Sol

Málaga Airport (AGP) is one of southern Europe's busiest airports, handling over 20 million passengers a year. Getting from the airport to your destination on the Costa del Sol is straightforward once you know the options.
Train (Cercanías C1): The cheapest and often fastest option into Málaga city centre. The train station is directly connected to the airport terminal. Trains run every 20 minutes, the journey to Málaga Centro-Alameda takes about 12 minutes, and a single ticket costs 2–5 EUR. This is what we use every time.
Bus (Line A Express): Runs every 25–30 minutes between the airport and the city centre bus station. Slightly slower than the train but covers different stops. Ticket: around 4 EUR.
Taxi: Fixed rates apply. Approximately 18–22 EUR to the city centre, 40–50 EUR to Marbella, 60–80 EUR to Marbella/Puerto Banús. Taxis are metered for shorter journeys and fixed-price for longer ones. Always use official licensed taxis from the designated ranks.
Private transfer: Worth considering for larger families or groups, particularly if you have a lot of luggage or are heading to a less central destination. Book in advance — several reliable operators serve the airport.
Car hire: Málaga Airport has all major rental companies. Strongly recommended if you plan to explore beyond the city or make day trips along the coast. Be aware that parking in central Málaga is limited and expensive — if you're staying in the city centre, a car is more trouble than it's worth.
One practical note: the airport is about 8km from the city centre and 60km from the western end of the Costa del Sol near Estepona. Journey times vary significantly depending on traffic, particularly in July and August.
