About Warner Bros. Studio Tour London — The Making of Harry Potter

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour occupies the working studio complex in Leavesden, Hertfordshire, where all eight Harry Potter films were shot between 2000 and 2011 — meaning the sets and props on display aren't replicas built for tourists but the genuine production material used during filming. The tour opened permanently in 2012, shortly after the final film's release, to preserve and display what would otherwise have been dismantled.

The self-paced walking route begins with the Great Hall, the genuine set used throughout the series, before moving through Dumbledore's office, the Gryffindor common room, Hagrid's hut and the Potions classroom, each dressed with real props, costumes and set dressing from the productions. A highlight partway through is stepping outside onto the full-scale, walkable reconstruction of Diagon Alley, followed later by the astonishingly detailed 1:24 scale model of Hogwarts castle used for all the exterior flying and establishing shots in the films.

Beyond the sets, the tour covers the practical filmmaking craft behind the series — animatronics, creature effects, wandwork, and the costume and makeup departments — giving as much attention to how the films were made as to the story itself. A licensed Butterbeer, the series' fictional drink, is available on site and has become something of a ritual stop for visitors.

Because the studio sits well outside central London, most visitors book a ticket bundled with return coach transport from central London, or take the train to Watford Junction followed by a dedicated shuttle bus — either way, the full outing typically takes most of a day.
