About C/O Berlin
Founded in 2000 as a charitable foundation, C/O Berlin has become one of Europe's most respected independent spaces dedicated purely to photography and visual media, with a programme that regularly brings major international photographers' work to Berlin — from iconic photojournalism to contemporary fine-art photography — on exhibitions that typically run for a few months before rotating to something entirely different.
Since 2014, C/O Berlin has occupied Amerika Haus, a building built during the Cold War as a US cultural and information centre aimed at West Berliners — itself a small piece of Cold War history repurposed for a very different, purely cultural, present-day use. The building's more than 2,500 square metres of exhibition space give C/O Berlin room to mount genuinely substantial shows rather than the more modest displays typical of gallery spaces this size.

Because the entire programme is temporary exhibitions rather than a fixed permanent collection, what you'll actually see depends entirely on timing — the value of a visit is closely tied to whether the current show interests you, which makes checking the current programme before visiting more important here than at most museums on this list.
Its location right next to Zoo Station and a short walk from the Museum für Fotografie makes it easy to pair both photography-focused stops into a single afternoon on the western side of the city.
